Asia OTT Conference Session I: Asian Local OTT Business Strategies

The development process and current state of the OTT industry across Asia will be examined, with an analysis of the unique business strategies and success factors of each platform, including the production of original content. Detailed presentations will be given on local Asian OTT platforms such as Korea's TVING, China's IQIYI, Japan's U-NEXT, and Indonesia's VIDIO. Additionally, in response to the high growth potential of the Asian OTT market, the session will propose the establishment of an Asian OTT joint fund network as a necessary condition for strengthening profitability and cooperation among local OTT platforms.

TCHA Seungjae (Professor, Dongguk University)

TCHA Sungjae contributed greatly to the quantitative and qualitative growth of the Korean film industry and was responsible for changing its production system, while he ran Uno Films Production, Sidus, and SidusFNH. He nurtured many creative directors, including BONG Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder (2003), who now represent the Korean film industry. He also expanded his overseas network and induced investment from Japan and Hong Kong for One Fine Spring Day (2001), jointly-produced MUSA-The Warrior (2001) with China, and tried joint production with Japan for Rikidozan: A Here Extraordinary (2004). Amid the major telecom company KT’s foray into the content business, his company SidusFNH was turned it into the biggest production company in Korea. It was the only production house that could maintain a yearly lineup big enough to be continuously featured in the market. Since 2005, he joined as a professor for the Graduate School of Digital Image and Contents of Dongguk University.

HONG Juhyun (Dongguk University)

After graduating from Master of Arts Film Director of Beijing Film Academy in 2006, She worked in Korean films such as Heaven’s Soldiers and The Restless and Russian films Mongol. She worked on the directing team in the Japanese film Zero Focus, the Korean film The Good, The Bad, The Weird, and Blades of Blood, and worked as an assistant director in the Chinese film Crimes of Passion and the Hong Kong film Helios. She completed Department of Film and Video Production, Graduate School of Digital Image and Contents, Dongguk University in 2024. She is currently serving as a lecturer at Department of Film and Video Production, Graduate School of Digital Image and Contents, Dongguk University. She published her academic paper ‘Changes in Drama Production in the New Platform Era- Research on Korean-style showrunners through analysis of the US showrunner system’ in the 30th issue of The Journal of Image and Cultural Contents.

Gary TSAI (COO, friDay Video)

Gary is a seasoned media and entertainment professional with extensive experience in content creation and investment, OTT platforms, digital transformation and executive leadership. Currently, Gary is the COO of Digital Entertainment at Far EasTone Telecom, where he oversees the planning and operations of strategy, marketing, retail channels, and product development for streaming media, entertainment funds and live events.
Prior to FET, he’s worked for Fox/Star TV, China Network Systems, and Huace Croton Media Group, where he honed his expertise in the media industry. He holds an MBA degree from the Haas School at UC Berkeley and a BA in Diplomacy from National Cheng-chi University.

Bryce TSAO (Film producer, iQIYI)

Bryce TSAO has been working with Chinese streaming platform iQIYI since 2016. He was the Director of International Distribution and listed as one of the "Future Leaders: The rising stars in sales and acquisitions" by SCREEN International in 2017. Over the years, he has been distributing many iQIYI titles internationally, such as Asia Contents Awards Best Creative winner The Bad Kids (2020) and Berlinale official selection Why Try To Change Me Now (2023). Currently, he is responsible for film production at iQIYI.

Frederica(Producer, Falcon Pictures and Director, KlikFilm)

Frederica is a prominent figure in the Indonesian film industry, serving as the Director of KlikFilm and a prolific producer at Falcon Pictures, one of Indonesia’s most successful production houses. At Falcon Pictures, Frederica has produced a wide range of films, spanning various genres, from commercial hits to critically acclaimed films. Under her leadership, Falcon Pictures has become a powerhouse in the Indonesian film industry, recognized for creating some of the highest-grossing films in the country, including Warkop DKI Reborn Part 1 (2016) and Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2022).
Frederica has also made a significant impact as the Director of KlikFilm, a popular streaming platform that offers a wide selection of films from around the world. Through KlikFilm, she has made international and independent cinema more accessible to Indonesian viewers, promoting cultural exchange and broadening the horizons of local audiences. Frederica’s dedication to the industry is further reflected in her efforts to support emerging filmmakers and new talent in Indonesia. She is widely regarded as a key player in shaping the future of Indonesian cinema, continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible in storytelling and film production.

Hang TRINH (CEO, Skyline Media)

Hang Trinh is the Founder & CEO of Skyline Media, who is one of the most active licensors that have brought over 800 foreign titles to Vietnam for releasing in cinemas, OTT platforms and TV channels. Skyline is also representing for over 100 Vietnamese titles to the world as the sales agent. Besides, Hang Trinh also runs Silver Moonlight Entertainment that focuses on financing, developing IPs and producing commercial feature and series with the aim to win domestic markets and reach to international markets. Her current works include the Vietnam-Korea co production Muoi: the curse returns released in 2022, the Thailand-Vietnam co production The Bride to be released in 2025.

NA Kyeongchan (CEO, INVENT STONE)

Na Kyeong-chan is the founder and CEO of Inventstone Inc. Inventstone Inc was founded in 2009 as a company engaged in film production and investment, distribution. It produced films such as The Fortress (2017), Gyeongju (2014), Boomerang Family (2013), Onday (2017), and I love you (2011). It also invested and distributed in a number of films. CEO Na Kyeong-chan started his film business (film business team, strategic planning team) at Sidus and has a number of experience in theater production. Recently, he is also a professor of producing major at the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA).
