Spain is a global hub for film, television, and game production that attracts top talent worldwide with its exceptional co-production incentives. Hear firsthand from three Asia-based film and animation producers as they share their unique insights and success stories from their co-production journeys with Spain. Find out how Spain’s creative landscape and infrastructure can benefit your next project! Producer, Jeremy Chua from Potocol talks about Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell (2023) a Vietnamese-language drama film by Phạm Thiên n. It is a co-production between Vietnam, Singapore, France and Spain. The film premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in 2023, and won the Caméra d'Or.

Set in an all-girls school in Singapore, Amoeba, the debut feature by Tan Siyou is a co-production between Singapore, France, The Netherlands and Spain. Fran Borgia from Akanga Film Asia shares the film’s development journey. Amoeba is currently in production.

Also in production is The Violinist, an animated historical feature film co-directed by Robot Media Playground’s Ervin Han and Spanish animation veteran Raúl García with support from Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the Valencia Institute of Culture (IVC). Lorna TEE (Spain Audiovisual Hub Consultant in Asia)

As a renowned film producer, programmer, and curator, Lorna has been awarded the Filmmaker of the Year Award by the Chinese Film Association of Malaysia in 2021. She collaborates with various Asian film agencies to enhance partnerships through the Asian Film Alliance Network and is currently the curator of mylab, an incubation development lab for Asian filmmakers.

Fran BORGIA(Producer, Akanga Film Asia)

As the founder of Akanga Film Asia, Fran has produced acclaimed films such as A Land Imagined (2018), winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno. His recent credits include Tomorrow is a Long Time (Berlinale 2023), Tiger Stripes (Cannes 2023, Grand Prize), Oasis of Now (Busan 2023), and Stranger Eyes (2024), the first Singaporean film to compete for the Golden Lion at Venice.

Jeremy CHUA(Producer, Potocol)

As the founder of Pōtocol in 2014, Jeremy has produced works by distinctive Asian auteurs. His recent credits include Some Rain Must Fall (Berlinale Encounters Jury Prize 2024) and Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell (Cannes Camera d’Or 2023). He is currently the General Manager of SGIFF and was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Asia Pacific Cinema by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.

Ervin HAN(Producer, Robot Playground Media)

As the co-founder of Robot Playground Media, Ervin produces, directs, and oversees the development of original animated series and features. He has collaborated with major studios like Disney and Warner Bros. and has won multiple awards, including the Asian Academy Creative Awards and the Asian Television Awards, aiming to elevate Southeast Asian animation as a well of talent, craft, and stories for a global audience.
